Property Tax
4 benefitsVeteran Basic Property Tax Exemption
Veterans who served during qualifying wartime periods and received an honorable discharge receive a $1,500 exemption off assessed property value.
Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption
100% disabled veterans receive an additional property tax exemption of up to $10,000 off assessed value. Veterans with partial disability ratings may qualify for additional exemptions based on degree of disability.
Amount may vary by municipality as some towns offer more generous local exemptions. Veterans with loss of limb, blindness, or unemployability ratings qualify for specific additional exemptions.
Surviving Spouse Property Tax Exemption
Surviving spouses of eligible veterans may continue to receive property tax exemptions as long as they remain unmarried and occupy the property as their primary residence.
Additional Municipal Property Tax Exemptions
Connecticut municipalities may vote to provide additional local property tax exemptions for veterans beyond the state minimums.
Check with local assessor for town-specific benefits. Also applies to motor vehicle property tax since Connecticut taxes vehicles as personal property.

Connecticut issues Disabled Veteran (DV) plates to veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating through the Connecticut DMV.
Registration Fee Exemption
100% disabled veterans are exempt from registration fees on one passenger vehicle. Former POWs and unremarried surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify.
Veteran and Military Specialty Plates
Connecticut offers specialty plates including Veteran, Purple Heart (no additional plate fee), Gold Star Family, POW/MIA, and branch-of-service plates.
Education

Connecticut provides a 100% tuition waiver (not fees) at all CSCU institutions including community colleges, state universities, and Charter Oak State College for eligible veterans.
Dependents Tuition Waiver
Children of veterans who died or became 100% permanently disabled as a result of service may qualify for tuition waivers at CSCU institutions for undergraduate study.
Children must be between ages 16 and 25 (or up to 27 in some cases).
Connecticut National Guard Education Assistance
Connecticut National Guard members may receive tuition assistance covering up to 100% of tuition at Connecticut public institutions and certain private institutions at the public rate.
In-State Tuition for Veterans
Veterans using GI Bill benefits receive in-state tuition at Connecticut public institutions regardless of residency status within 3 years of discharge.

Professional License Reciprocity
Veterans with military training substantially equivalent to state licensing requirements receive expedited review or credit toward licensure. Military spouses are eligible for temporary licenses.
Military Leave for State Employees
Connecticut state employees serving in the National Guard or Reserves receive up to 30 days of paid military leave per calendar year for active duty or training.
